The Democratic National Convention is currently underway in Chicago. Amongst the policy proposals, wholesome Tim Walz family moments, and constant Trump roasts, something unexpected has captured the internet’s attention – the state-by-state musical roll call.
Complete with a DJ and live music performances, each state had its own hype music. Here at Faith Zodiac, we like to ask the questions that truly matter; which roll call song is each Zodiac sign? Read on to find out, based on nothing but general vibes.
Aries; Minnesota — “Kiss” by Prince & the Revolution; “1999” by Prince & the Revolution
Was anyone surprised when Minnesota chose their pride and joy – Prince – to represent them?
Aries is the life of any party, just like these tracks. Their undeniably joyful energy is always infectious. Just like a good Prince song, Aries makes us all want to get up and boogie.
Taurus; Nevada — “Mr. Brightside” by the Killers
Nevada went with the song that everyone under the age of 35 knows by heart – Mr. Brightside.
Taurus is reliable, loyal, and the friend to call when times get tough. So of course, Taurus is the ‘ol reliable’ of party songs. Whether it be a house party, a wedding, or apparently even a political rally, you know this song is going to be played.
Gemini; South Carolina — “Get Up, I Feel Like Being a Sex Machine” by James Brown
James Brown, the godfather of funk, was born in South Carolina, and this track is a celebration of that homegrown talent.
Like playing a song called “Get Up, I Feel Like Being a Sex Machine” at a political convention, a Gemini’s vibe is pure emotional whiplash. Gemini is often misunderstood and a little strange. And I, for one, have nothing but respect for them for it.
Cancer; Tennessee — “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton
Tennessee was represented by America’s sweetheart, Dolly Parton.
Leave it to the most emotional sign to tug at our heartstrings and choose a number by America’s most beloved icon. Is there truly anything more patriotic than the shared love of Dolly that unites us all?
Leo; Missouri — “Good Luck, Babe” by Chappell Roan
I gotta give it to Missouri – if I was responsible for delivering the best pop diva we’ve seen in decades, I too, would show it off at every possible event.
Leo is all about making a grand entrance, and “Good Luck, Babe” is exactly the kind of bold, attention-grabbing anthem I’d expect from them. After all, who can outshine a Leo?
Virgo; Vermont — “Stick Season” by Noah Kahan
Not only is Noah Kahan from Stafford, Vermont, but many of his songs reference Vermont and New England directly. The only miss was not using his song “Homesick” to include the line “I’m mean because I grew up in New England.”
Vermont’s choice to be represented by an artist with such a clear love/hate relationship with his home state was perfect. With the perfectionist and self-critical nature of Virgos, they should relate to some of Noah Kahan’s songs. Plus, the Virgo; Vermont alliteration worked too well not to include.
Libra; West Virginia — “Take Me Home, Country Road” by John Denver
The Mountain Momma state went for the obvious representative song. But just because it’s obvious doesn’t mean it’s anything less than perfect.
Libra, the sign of balance, harmony, and beauty, resonates perfectly with West Virginia’s choice of “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” This classic anthem is all about finding peace and belonging, something every Libra strives for. Plus, who doesn’t love a song that brings people together?
Scorpio; California — “The Next Episode” by Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg; “California Love” by Tupac Shakur featuring Dr. Dre; “Alright” and “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar
California had arguably the hardest time choosing songs by state locals. Not only did California pick three songs – they picked three _fantastic _songs. I’d expect nothing less from an overachieving Scorpio.
If you want something done right, ask a Scorpio to do it. Scorpios are meticulous, never doing anything halfway, and these songs embody that perfectionism. Just like whoever chose the California songs, Scoripos are going to deliver.
Sagittarius; Georgia — “Turn Down for What” by DJ Snake and Lil Jon; “Get Low” by Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz featuring Ying Yang Twins
Lil Jon performing “Turn Down for What” at the country’s largest political rally was not on my 2024 bingo card. Call me biased, but I think we can safely say that in terms of vibes, Georgia is the obvious winner.
This perfectly gels with Sagittarius energy; always the life of the party, never to be outdone. Sagittarius is always here for a good time and, just like these tracks, get everyone on their feet. 10/10, no notes.
Capricorn; Texas — “Texas Hold ’Em” by Beyoncé
It’s hard to think of a better song to represent Texas – it’s literally in the title. The fact that Houston legend Beyoncé made history as the first black woman to have a number-one country song in Billboard history just makes it sweeter.
Once a Capricorn sets their mind to something, there’s no stopping them. Though Capricorns are practical and goal-oriented, they still know how to have a good time. So of course the record-setting Texas representative matches with them.
Aquarius; Arizona — “Edge of Seventeen” by Stevie Nicks
Give her some twirling room, because Arizona went with a modern classic by their local icon, Stevie Nicks.
modern classic with a mystical vibe—just like the Aquarius who’s always marching to the beat of their own drum.
Pisces; Louisiana — “All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled
Last but not least, Louisiana went with one of the best modern hype songs to represent itself.
Pisces is the dreamer, the believer, and always tuned into the emotions of the world around them. This hype song is all about victory and celebration, just like the Pisces is all about manifesting positivity.
