Stephen Hawking, the prestigious and widely respected theoretical physicist and cosmologist has come up with a theory explaining exactly why Alien life has yet to contact us. The theory raises an abundance of questions and it may not be what you predicted, nevertheless, it may offer some much-needed insights.
In comparison to the rest of space, planet Earth is nothing but a small blimp of dust in the grand scheme of things. This being the case it is quite likely that there are other life forms going about their lives, what is little old planet Earth to them anyway.
Countless Ways to Decipher the Truth
Countless Scientists have consistently studied the universe in hopes of getting a glimpse of life other than our own. Theories of other life forms are nothing new. Scientists are constantly hypothesizing what is out there, but this is a rare occasion where a new theory has gotten people talking beyond the norm.
There are several opinions as to why Hawking’s particular theory has people’s interest heightened and it could be because of how dark it is. People online have broken it down for us.
Forbidden Signals
It’s perhaps safe to say that humans have been sending signals to our possible friends or foes both on purpose and by accident without a response. This lack of response may not be for a lack of communication but rather because of safety reasons.
If you look at humans alone, they are in the habit of trying to eliminate any threat that is perceived to put them at risk. Knowing what we know about humans maybe aliens or other foreign entities are one of the same and they don’t want to reveal themselves for fear of being threatened, whether by us or any other aliens that they may know of other than themselves.
Have We Exposed Too Much?
If humans are intentionally being ignored for such reasons and other life forms know something that we don’t it could mean that we have unintentionally compromised our well-being and livelihood.
The alternative is that we aren’t even being heard at all or that perhaps there is no one to find. Other experts reason that we are screaming into the abyss and thus the vast void that is the universe is just too spread apart to make any real connection. The odds may simply not be in our favor.
What Kind of Time Do We Have?
Because of the dark and unknown void that is in space, it may take hundreds or thousands of years before we even know for certain that other life is out there. It begs the question, do we even want to risk knowing?
Hopefully, this knowledge we acquire helps us more than it harms us in the long run. At this point, all bets are off, it could do more harm than good or to the complete contrary. We’ll have to make some kind of headway to know for sure and it seems to be a long while before we do.
Dark Forest Theory
This theory, backed by Hawking theorizes that we should hope we never find such extraterrestrial life forms. Out of the 200 billion stars and about some odd 100 billion planets there might barely be life forms on any of the other planets. Out of these unknown entities they could be indeed also looking for us and not the way we want them to.
According to the Drake equation, a probabilistic calculation used to predict the number of extraterrestrial civilizations residing within the Milky Way there are only a handful of such possible civilizations, 20 or so. The equation uses variables such as the number of planets we know of that can support life among other elements to determine assertions as accurately as we can. This being the case it is rather surprising that we haven’t made as many discoveries as we would like.
Why Is It So Dark Out There?
If aliens are purposely keeping quiet because of us or someone else, it indicates quite a hostile environment for staying alive. There is no real way to know if other life forms will annihilate you if given the change. The concept of survival of the fittest may be closer to home than we think.
Annihilation would ensure that one civilization continues to thrive over another after all. Since many would do anything to save themselves, perhaps encountering another life form may have us face to face with a dilemma we could have avoided. On the contrary maybe projecting human stigmas on aliens is a mistake in it of itself.
Different Frequencies
Human life and alien life may just be on different frequencies altogether. Whether or not you believe in this theory or not, even if one civilization behaved in such a manner and not all of them, one is all it would take to cause universal turmoil in the universe.
No one likes a killjoy but it is better to be cautious than sorry later and with good reason. You never know what is lurking around the corner.
Do You Agree With Hawking?
Whether or not you agree with Hawking’s theory and assertions we won’t know the truth any time soon. Despite not knowing the inner workings of the galaxy and who inhabits them, one thing is certain: if there was reason to hide out existence from aliens it would cause problems. This would confirm that there are hostile life forms out there.
Not knowing their level of advancement and knowledge could put all of us at risk. Let us hope that this isn’t the case and that something dangerous doesn’t come from such a monumental discovery.
